Mizoram Governor

Aizawl, Oct 31: The upcoming Mizoram Legislative Assembly election in 2023 has taken a significant step as the state’s Governor announces a public holiday on November 7, 2023 (Tuesday).

This holiday applies to all government servants, including those working in Central/State Public undertakings, educational institutions, and banking institutions across Mizoram. The primary purpose of this holiday is to allow citizens to exercise their right to vote in the general election.

As the election season unfolds, the political landscape in Mizoram becomes more vibrant. The Mizo National Front (MNF), led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, is in power and is aiming to secure another term. The MNF faces strong competition from the main opposition party, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), the Congress, and their NDA ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In all 40 constituencies, candidates from the three major parties—MNF, ZPM, and Congress—are vying for victory. The BJP, which contested 39 seats in the previous 2018 Assembly elections, is now competing for 23 seats.

Adding to the electoral diversity, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is making its debut in the state with four candidates, contributing to the growing number of political options for voters. Furthermore, 27 Independent candidates have entered the race, making this election even more competitive.

With the public holiday declared on November 7, the Mizoram electorate will have the opportunity to actively participate in the democratic process and shape the future of their state. As campaigning intensifies and political rallies take center stage, all eyes are on Mizoram as it moves toward the crucial legislative assembly election.

This holiday not only emphasizes the importance of every vote but also serves as a reminder of the significance of democratic participation in shaping the destiny of the state. On November 7, 2023, Mizoram will witness a celebration of its democratic values, and the outcome of this election will determine the path that the state will follow in the years to come.
