Former Governor of Mizoram, Manipur, Jharkhand passes away at 87:
June 6, 2020: Former governor of three states, namely Mizoram, Manipur and Jharkhand, Ved Marwah passed away in Goa at around 8.30 pm on Friday, June 5. He was 87.
He served as the Governor of the states of Manipur (1999-2003), Mizoram (2000-2001)and Jharkhand (2003-2004) respectively. He served as a Professor at the Centre for Policy Research. He was also the President of the Centre for Policy Studies, New Delhi.
The state funeral that will be conducted for him will be with full honours. The news of the death was confirmed by DGP Goa on the twitter handle.
“We are deeply saddened at the loss of a great leader of the police force. Shri Ved Marwah, IPS, led the force from the front through difficult times and served as a Governor to three states. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” it was stated in the tweet.

The Prime Minister said in a tweet, “Shri Ved Marwah Ji will be remembered for his rich contributions to public life.”

Ved Marwah was born in Peshawar, British India. He moved to India post-partition. He graduated from St. Stephens College. He served as the President of the Alumni Association there. He earned a diploma degree in Public Administration from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.
He was an Indian Police Service officer. Marwah has held different offices and has had a career of 36 years. He was the Commissioner of Police (1985-88), Delhi; and Director General of the National Security Guard(1988-90).
In 1989, Marwah was awarded the Padma Shri award.
He had been suffering from a lung disorder for many years and was hospitalised for the past ten days in Goa, sources from his family said.
It is indeed a huge loss for the fraternity as pointed out by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a tweet, “Saddened to hear the demise of Ved Marwah, IPS and Ex-Governor Manipur, Jharkhand & Mizoram. He will be remembered for his rich contributions to public life. For Manipur, we lost one of the finest Governor who served the state. My condolences to his family and friends.“
