Guwahati, April 22: In Assam, an agitated mob reacted to suspicions of cattle theft by taking matters into their own hands, setting two vehicles ablaze. The incident unfolded as three individuals allegedly attempted to steal cows, prompting vigilant residents to apprehend them.

Eyewitnesses reported that the turmoil began when a luxury vehicle, bearing the license plate AS01-DK-7214, was identified as transporting stolen cattle.

The three cows were promptly handed over to Dharamtul police, underlining the seriousness of the situation.

Additionally, a Tata war vehicle with the registration number AS01-QC-5575 was also set on fire, illustrating the escalating tensions.

The alleged perpetrators, identified as Musarikul Islam, Morshidul Islam, and Gulzar Hussain Alli, were quickly captured by alert community members. One resident, speaking to the media, emphasized the significance of cattle in sustaining livelihoods within the community.

“Cattle breeding is a primary source of income for many residents. When criminals attempt to deprive them of this livelihood, it affects everyone,” the resident stated.

This incident underscores the challenges faced by rural communities in safeguarding their means of livelihood against criminal activities. It highlights the importance of collective vigilance and swift action in preserving the rural way of life.
