Bhubaneswar, June 12: Senior BJP tribal leader Mohan Charan Majhi, a four-time MLA, was sworn in as Odisha’s Chief Minister on Wednesday, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Notably, Majhi is the BJP’s first Chief Minister in the state.

The grand oath-taking ceremony commenced around 5 pm at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. Alongside Majhi, BJP leaders KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida also took the oath as deputy chief ministers of Odisha.

Furthermore, ministers Prithiviraj Harichandan, Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, and Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra were sworn in as part of the Majhi-led government.

The ceremony witnessed the oath-taking of several other ministers, including Suresh Pujari, Rabi Narayan Naik, Nityananda Gond, Krushna Chandra Patra, Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia, Suryabanshi Suraj, and Pradeep Balasamanta. The oaths were administered by Odisha Governor Raghubar Das.

A host of top BJP leaders, including PM Modi, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, JP Nadda, Bhupender Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, and Ashwini Vaishnaw graced the event. Naveen Patnaik, who led Odisha for 24 years, attended the ceremony after being personally invited by Majhi earlier in the day.

Several chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand, also marked their presence.

Majhi expressed that the new government would commence work within 100 days to fulfil the promises outlined in the BJP’s manifesto.

The BJP’s victory in the recent Assembly elections marked the end of 24 years of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) rule, with the BJP securing 78 out of 147 seats. The BJD secured 51 seats, while Congress got 14, CPI(M) one, and Independents three.
