Mukul Roy

Delhi, April 18: Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy arrived in Delhi on Monday evening, under mysterious circumstances, amid claims by his family that he was “untraceable.” Reports suggest that his family had been unable to contact him since he took his flight to Delhi.

However, there have been no missing complaints filed with the police. In a video, Roy was seen at the Delhi airport with an escort, denying that he had come to Delhi for any “special political reason,” amid speculation that he may be planning to switch parties again, after rejoining the Trinamool from the BJP in 2021.

Roy, who is believed to have been unwell for some time, denied being unwell, telling reporters that he had come to Delhi for “special work.” The former railway minister and BJP national vice president joined the BJP in 2017 following differences with Mamata Banerjee and won the 2021 Bengal assembly polls on a BJP ticket.

After several Trinamool defectors returned to the party, Roy also rejoined his former party along with his son.

The sudden arrival of Mukul Roy in Delhi has triggered speculations of another political switch, as his family had reportedly been unable to contact him since his flight to Delhi. However, his close aides claim that Roy was scheduled to land in Delhi around 9 pm on Monday. Some have also speculated that his visit may be linked to the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections in 2024.

Mukul Roy’s return to the Trinamool had been seen as a significant boost for the party, which had lost several senior leaders to the BJP in recent years. However, his sudden arrival in Delhi and his family’s claims of being “untraceable” have raised several questions about his political future and the reasons for his visit to the capital.
