1. Khohantum, a 23-year-old Myanmar national, brought to Imphal for medical treatment, has died from bullet injuries.

Imphal, Nov 24: A 23-year-old Myanmar national, Khohantum, who was brought to Imphal, Manipur, for medical treatment after sustaining bullet injuries, has tragically succumbed to his wounds. The Assam Rifles and police transported him to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal, where he was admitted on Thursday morning.

Khohantum, a resident of the bordering Thanan village in Myanmar, had suffered bullet injuries in his lower abdomen. Unfortunately, he was admitted to the hospital eight hours after sustaining these injuries and, despite medical treatment, passed away in the afternoon, as reported in a bulletin from JNIMS.

Upon learning about the admission of the injured Myanmar national, a large crowd gathered in front of the medical college. To prevent any untoward incidents, a combined team of Imphal East District Police and Central Forces deployed in the hospital managed the crowd. In response to the situation, the police fired tear gas shells to control the gathering.

The backdrop of this tragic incident is the escalating gun battle between the Myanmar Army and the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF), the armed wing of the Chin National Organisation (CNO), in the Chin state of Myanmar. The region has witnessed ongoing conflict and tensions, leading to spillover effects into neighboring areas like Manipur.
