Manipur, March 21: Senior BJP leader N Biren Singh, who was unanimously elected leader of the legislature party in Manipur on Sunday, took the oath as Chief Minister of the state for a second term on Monday.

In a meeting on Sunday, which was attended by the party’s central observers Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union law and justice minister Kiren Rijiju, Singh was unanimously elected as leader of the legislature party of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Following this, the Governor of Manipur La. Ganesan invited Singh to form the next government.

Governor Ganesan has invited Singh as the leader of the BJP legislative party to “indicate the time and date for forming the ministry” a statement issued by Raj Bhavan said.

The BJP retained power in the state by winning 32 out of 60 Assembly seats in the House in the recently concluded Assembly elections. Congress could manage to secure just five seats and the National People’s Party (NPP) won seven seats. Naga People’s Front (NPF) bagged five and the Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) got two seats. Independents bagged three seats.
