Diocese golden jubilee

Kohima, Oct 30: The three-day celebration of the Diocese of Kohima’s golden jubilee concluded with a solemn Eucharistic procession on Sunday. Thousands of devoted individuals participated in prayer and song, marching from the Cathedral to Dzüvürü junction and returning to the church via South Police Station.

Bishop of Bongaigaon, Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Pullopillil, carried the “blessed Sacrament” during the procession.

Following the procession, Most Rev. Dr. Victor Lyndoh, the Archbishop of Shillong, conveyed a message emphasizing the significance of the Eucharist as a source of Christian life. He explained that the Eucharist symbolizes Christ.

He stated that the Eucharistic procession serves as a reminder to the faithful of Jesus’ presence. Even if many may not perceive or fully comprehend the Almighty’s presence, Christ quietly listens to every conversation and is a part of the daily lives of the faithful.

The third day of the jubilee celebration began with the Holy Eucharist at the Cathedral, with Most Rev. Dr. John Moolachira DD, the Archbishop of Guwahati, as the main celebrant.

Addressing the congregation, the archbishop emphasized that a Jubilee is a time for celebration and gratitude.

“We celebrate because we are proud that our diocese has grown and has been able to serve the Catholic community and the people of the state in a significant way. We thank God for those who brought the Gospel to us and helped us live our faith and improve our lives,” he said.

The jubilee is also a time to assess the present situation and examine the strengths and weaknesses of one’s faith, he added.

Moreover, the jubilee is an opportunity to plan for the future and consider how to make the Church relevant for future generations. He emphasized, “As we look into the future, we are reminded that the faith the missionaries have brought to us is to be shared with others who have not heard the Gospel or of Jesus.”

As the Diocese of Kohima celebrates its golden jubilee, he encouraged the faithful to reflect on the positive influence they have had on the people around them and the influence the Catholic Church has had on the people of Nagaland.

Before the Holy Eucharist, Rev. Fr. Neisalhou Carolus, Vicar General of the Diocese of Kohima, welcomed the congregation. The Gospel was read by the Archbishop-elect of Imphal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Linus Neli.

On Sunday, 50 children received their first holy communion, administered by the Auxiliary Bishop of Agartala, Most Rev. Dr. Jose Chirackal, Archbishop of Kottayam, Most Rev. Mathew Moolakat DD, and Archbishop of Miao, Most Rev. Dennis Panipitchai DD.
