Nagaland govt moves to prepare own version of NRC

Nagaland, April 17: The Nagaland Govt on Friday decided to set up a joint consultative committee for the preparation of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN), the state’s own version of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

According to the state government, the exercise of RIIN is to identify the citizens i.e, NRC, who settled in Nagaland prior to December 1, 1963, the day it became a full-fledged state.

The objective of RIIN is to prevent the issuance of indigenous inhabitant certificates to ineligible persons and also to maintain the record of indigenous inhabitants.

Once the process is completed, persons whose names are included in the RIIN will be issued indigenous inhabitant certificates.
