Nagaland to reopen for tourists, mandatory COVID-19 tests for travellers

Nagaland, Dec 27: Riding high on a commendable recovery rate from the coronavirus pandemic, Nagaland will open its doors to tourists on Sunday, albeit in a phased manner.

In the first phase, the state will reopen only for domestic tourists with only one entry point – Dimapur, by road, rail, or air.

As per the Nagaland government notification, tourists will be expected to furnish a negative report of Covid-19 test – RT-PCR/TrueNat/CBNAAT – done not earlier than 72 hours prior to arrival.

An Inner Line Permit (ILP) will also be needed for travellers, which will be made available only online in the first phase. Those visiting will be allowed only with pre-booked tour packages, and an e-invite for the itinerary will be generated beforehand for this.

As is the norm for other things, tourists will have to install the Aarogya Setu app on their mobile phones, must wear masks and maintain social distancing wherever they go.

As per a state health official, Nagaland currently has a Covid-19 recovery rate that is more than the national average of 95.75 per cent. The recovery rate in the state has been at 95.94 per cent since Friday.

The state’s coronavirus tally rose to 11,897 on Saturday with only two people testing positive for the virus in Kohima and Peren, state Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.

Nagaland has 274 active cases as of now, while 11,415 people have recovered. Dimapur has the highest number of active cases (109), followed by Kohima (91) and Mokokchung (47).
