Nagaland, Dec 10: Protesting against the killing of 14 civilians in Nagaland’s Mon district, Northeast Students’ Organization (NESO) on Thursday carried out protests across the region by demanding to repeal the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the North-Eastern region.

In Guwahati, NESO and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had jointly carried out an agitation programme to protest against the killings of 14 civilians.

The protesters demanded to repeal AFSPA, give exemplary punishment to those involved in the barbaric killing in Nagaland.

Showing placard with slogans ‘Condemn killing of innocent people by security forces in Nagaland’, ‘Stop neglect in North East’, ‘Don’t forget we are also part of India’, ‘We want peace in Northeast’, the protesters demanded that, the AFSPA must be repealed.

NESO advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya said that we can’t tolerate this kind of killing by the armed forces.

“The indigenous people of Assam and North Eastern region are with the people of Nagaland and the people of Oting basti in Mon district. We are condemning the barbaric killing of the armed forces in Nagaland’s Mon district. The culprit must get exemplary punishment,” Samujjal Bhattacharya said.

NESO comprising All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Twipra Student Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) had organized agitation programmes in all the state capital of all the North-Eastern states as a mark to protest against the act committed by the security forces in Oting village in Mon district on December 4 which resulted to the death of 14 civilians and injuries to many others.
