Gangtok, Jan 21: Reform Call, an informal organization, on Friday stated it might launch a new party at Melli in south Sikkim on Republic Day to provide an alternative to the people of the state.
Addressing a press conference, Ganesh Rai, the leader of Reform Call, said the new party would be very different from all the existing parties in Sikkim.
“We will celebrate Republic Day in south Sikkim’s Melli Bazar… We will assemble 999 leaders from the grassroots, villages, constituencies, and the state and also those who take an interest in politics. And that day, we can claim the formation of a new party in Sikkim,” he stated.
Rai, who’s a former leader of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), had launched the Sikkim Sudhar Sankalpa Yatra below the banner of Reform Call on November 21 as a precursor to the formation of the new party.

“In the 35-day yatra, we met thousands of people and interacted with them. We visited hundreds of villages and walked for hundreds of kilometres. From the yatra, we have come to know that Sikkim is looking for an alternative,” he said.
Rai said the new party would not be dominated by an individual, but it would operate on the basis of collective leadership.
“A person from among those who have taken the membership of Reform Call will lead the party. The president of the party will be declared in a transparent manner through the election,” he said
