NIA court acquitted Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi and three others in UAPA cases

Guwahati, July 1: Jailed activist and newly elected MLA Akhil Gogoi and three others have been acquitted of all charges by the NIA court.

He will be released soon.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday filed a supplementary charge sheet in the only pending UAPA and sedition case against Akhil Gogoi.

Two cases filed against Akhil Gogoi for his alleged involvement in violence during the anti-CAA movement in Assam in December 2019.

The National Investigation Agency had filed two cases against Akhil Gogoi – one from Chabua police station in Dibrugarh district and another from Chandmari police station in Guwahati for his alleged involvement in criminal activities during anti-CAA protests under various sections of the IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act (UAPA).

The National Investigation Agency court on Thursday acquitted all charges against Akhil Gogoi and three others.

Akhil Gogoi who is the president of Raijor Dal was arrested in December 2019 for his alleged involvement in anti-CAA protests in the state.
