Kohima, Feb 22: In a shocking incident, the deputy leader of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), Kilonser Khampei Konyak, was reportedly assassinated by unidentified assailants at his residence in Mon district, Nagaland.

Reports indicate that Konyak was at home when a group of six unidentified individuals forcibly entered his residence and fatally shot him. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, the NSCN-IM leader succumbed to his injuries.

According to sources, the tragic incident occurred in Tizit, situated within the Mon district near the Assam-Arunachal border.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, with the Tizit police taking charge of the case.

The deceased, Khampei Konyak, had previously served as the former central executive member and chairman of the Konyak region for the NSCN-K faction.

However, in a significant move in October 2023, he and several other cadres, including CCM Lempha Wangsu, Leacy Aleam Wangnao, Leacy Langngam Wangsu, Capt. Nokngam Wangsu, 2nd Lieut. Aton Wangsu, Sgt. Maj. Apan Wangsa, Sgt. Phowang Konyak Wangsa, Corporal Wankap Wangsa, Corporal Aman Wangsa, and Corporal Nahpan, switched their allegiance to the NSCN-IM faction.
