NSCN(IM) militants Open Fire In Assam Village, One Injured

Assam, Dec 15: In the Cachar district of Assam along the interstate border with Manipur, suspected NSCN(IM) militants killed a person on Tuesday after firing on villagers who refused to accept their demands.

The Assam-Manipur border, which the militants occasionally use as a transit route, is just 500 meters from the remote village of Samtila where the incident occurred, said Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur.

Around ten cadres of the NSCN(IM) visited the village in the morning and demanded something, such as accommodation. They did not agree, as a result of which an altercation ensued, Kaur stated.

The militants, however, failed to convince them and then fired on the villagers, she added.

A person was injured in the firing, and he was taken to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). He is in stable condition, Kaur said.
