Lovlina Borgohain

Guwahati, Jan 12: Assam boxer and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has been appointed as DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) by the Assam government.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday gave the appointment letter to Lovlina Borgohain who has been appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state at a function held in Guwahati.

The DSP insignia of the Assam police were clipped on Lovlina Borgohain’s shoulders by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

The ace pugilist also took oath as Assam police DSP in the function.

Lovlina became only the third Indian boxer to finish on the Olympic podium with six-time world champion M C Mary Kom and Vijender Singh.

On October 29 last year, the Assam cabinet approved the appointment of Olympic medal-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Assam police.

Earlier, ace sprinter Hima Das who is also known as ‘Dhing Express’ was appointed as DSP in the state police by the Assam government.
