Guwahati, Sep 21: A 12-year-old Assam boy’s online gaming addiction cost heavily to his parent’s bank savings.

The 12-year-old boy – a student of Class 7 in Assam’s Sivasagar district had allegedly siphoned Rs 19 lakh from his mother’s bank account for purchasing online gaming materials after getting trapped by a 20-year-old youth and two others aged below 18 years that he had met on the online game platform.

Police have arrested all four persons and registered a case (no-1114/2021) under Section 420/406 of IPC at Sivasagar police station.

According to the reports, the child used his mother’s mobile phone for his online classes, but he spent time playing the online game.

Sivasagar district police said that, on September 18, the child’s mother lodged a complaint and stated that, approximately Rs 19 lakh withdrew from her bank account between August 4 to September 17 and during police investigation, it is revealed the four persons had used the amount to purchase online game materials.

Assam Sivasagar district Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Roushan said that they had used the amount to purchase online gaming materials.

We have arrested all four persons including the 20-year-old youth. Our investigation is on,” Rakesh Roushan said.

The 20-year-old youth was identified as Nipuraj Gogoi and two others, both aged 16.

According to the Sivasagar district police, Nipuraj Gogoi took the 12-year-old boy into confidence and collected his mother’s bank account details via WhatsApp.

Apart from buying online game materials, the minor had also bought two mobile phone handsets including an iPhone with the help of the 20-year-old youth.

The boy’s parents got suspicious after seeing two costly phones and when they checked the bank accounts they discovered the disappearance of around Rs 19 lakh.

Sivasagar district police have arrested Nipuraj Gogoi and three others and produced them before the court.
