Imphal, Aug 02: Manipur remains a focal point for the Opposition, with leaders heading to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet President Droupadi Murmu. The ongoing Monsoon Session of the parliament continues to witness heated debates and significant developments on various issues.

Simultaneously, the Supreme Court’s observations on the Manipur crisis have further bolstered the Opposition’s position. Meanwhile, in the Lok Sabha, the discussion on the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, faces opposition from the INDIA alliance, while the Rajya Sabha is set to consider and pass three crucial bills that have already received approval in the Lower House.

The ongoing crisis in Manipur has captured the attention of the Opposition, leading them to seek a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu. Senior leaders from the INDIA alliance, along with 21 MPs who recently visited Manipur, will meet the President to discuss the “complete breakdown of law and order and constitutional machinery” in the state.

The Supreme Court’s scathing remarks on the sluggishness of the state police’s investigation have further strengthened the Opposition’s stance. The Opposition’s efforts to highlight the situation in Manipur aim to urge the government to take swift action and address the crisis effectively.

Amidst the ongoing turmoil in Manipur, a 19-member delegation from the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has arrived in the state for a three-day tour. The delegation plans to visit relief camps and meet the victims affected by the recent ethnic clashes.

Additionally, the student leaders are seeking appointments to meet Governor Anusuya Uikey and Chief Minister N Biren Singh to discuss the situation and explore potential solutions. The involvement of student leaders from NESO reflects the growing concern over the situation in Manipur and the need for collective efforts to bring stability and peace to the region.

In the Lok Sabha, the Narendra Modi-led government faces opposition from the INDIA alliance over the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023. The Opposition plans to move a statutory resolution against the ordinance that the Bill seeks to replace.

The ordinance, promulgated by the President on May 19, aimed to take control of services in Delhi away from the elected AAP government. Senior leaders from various opposition parties, including Congress, DMK, TMC, RSP, and CPI-M, among others, are united in their stand against the government’s move. The resolution is seen as a significant challenge to the government’s intentions regarding Delhi’s governance.

In the Rajya Sabha, three important bills that have already received approval in the Lok Sabha are up for consideration and passage. The bills include The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023, which aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the mining sector.

The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, of 2023, focuses on promoting sustainable forest management practices. Lastly, The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023, aims to strengthen provisions related to public welfare schemes. These bills are crucial for the country’s economic and environmental well-being and are expected to receive support from various political parties in the Rajya Sabha.

As the Monsoon Session progresses, the situation in Manipur remains a top priority for the Opposition, as they seek the attention of President Droupadi Murmu to address the crisis effectively. The Supreme Court’s remarks further strengthen their position, demanding urgent action from the government.
