Itanagar, Aug 02: In a significant blow to the drug menace plaguing Arunachal Pradesh, the Anti-Drug Squad of Namsai made a major breakthrough by raiding a house and recovering a substantial quantity of suspected heroin.

Led by SDPO Namsai Chera Sawan, the team conducted the operation on July 30 and arrested two notorious drug peddlers, Bhaskar Gogoi (32) and Putulon Gogoi (28), from Bogamur Pahargaon village in Namsai district. The seizure of 49 plastic containers filled with suspected heroin weighing a total of 499.15 grams and sales proceeds amounting to Rs 30,500 has dealt a heavy blow to the drug trade in the region.

Acting on precise intelligence about drug possession and dealing, the Anti-Drug Squad, comprising officers from Namsai and Mahadevpur police stations, along with personnel from ‘A’ coy CRPF Namsai, executed the raid in the wee hours of July 30. The team displayed exceptional coordination and efficiency during the operation, which led to the apprehension of the two drug traffickers.

During the raid, the law enforcement team uncovered a total of 49 soap cases containing suspected heroin. The combined weight of the seized drugs amounted to 499.15 grams, with an estimated current market value of approximately Rs 17,15,000 (Seventeen lahks Fifteen Thousand Rupees). Additionally, the team also recovered sales proceeds worth Rs 30,500 from the suspects’ house.

Following the successful operation, a case has been registered under Namsai Police Station vide C/No. 42/23 U/S 21(C) NDPS ACT. The arrested individuals, Bhaskar Gogoi and Putulon Gogoi are notorious drug peddlers known for their involvement in significant inter-state drug smuggling activities in the district. Their arrest is seen as a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to curb the drug trade in the region.

The discovery and seizure of such a substantial quantity of drugs reflect the gravity of the drug menace in Arunachal Pradesh.
