Guwahati, Feb 22: The Government of Assam, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has unveiled plans to distribute land pattas to over 2,29,000 families across the state as part of Mission Basundhara 2.0.

This initiative aims to grant land rights to indigenous communities, promoting their socio-economic stability and fostering inclusive growth.

Since its launch on November 14, 2022, Mission Basundhara 2.0 has played a pivotal role in empowering landless indigenous people and vulnerable sections of society by securing their rightful ownership of land.

The program offers favorable options for land acquisition, including low or easy premium schemes for various groups such as Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Persons with Disabilities, widows without earning members, and cultivators with irregular income.

A key objective of Mission Basundhara 2.0 is to safeguard the land rights of tribal communities holding ancestral lands.

Furthermore, the initiative facilitates the registration of land ownership, allowing landholders to leverage their property as collateral for loans and financial services, thereby enhancing their access to credit and economic opportunities.

The distribution schedule, organized by the government, will encompass legislative assembly sessions across different constituencies.

Central and State Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, and Chief Executive Members will oversee the distribution process to ensure its efficiency and fairness.

The issuance of land pattas signifies a significant milestone in Assam’s pursuit of social justice and inclusive development.

By allocating a total land area of 3,02,545 bighas in the Brahmaputra Valley and 1,214 bighas in the Barak Valley, the government underscores its commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of its citizens.

Among the beneficiaries of the land pattas, 84% hail from Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and Other Backward Classes communities.

This targeted approach reflects the government’s dedication to uplifting marginalized segments of society and fostering their active involvement in the state’s progress.
