Illegal trade of turtle meat was found in Dhubri Assam

Assam, September 18: Assam Dhubri district forest officials on Wednesday raided the premises of Dhubri Boys Club close to Maidan and found on the illegal trade of turtle meat.

The officials were successful in stopping the sell of the turtle meat. However, those who participated in this illegal transaction managed to escape from the spot.

The raid was carried out after the forest officials of Assam received that the meat Illegal trade is being circulated.

A turtle weighing around 20kg was cut down by culprits and was set to sell it for 1200 per kg. This is a violation of the wildlife protection act, 1972 the police informed they will soon take find out the people who are involved in this case and will take action against it.

MP takes up Sikkim issues with Ministers

Sikkim, September 17: Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba called on Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Kailash Choudhary at his office in New Delhi. The meeting was called to discuss various issues and policies of the State.

Subba informed how the State government is committed to implementing Central schemes in the State. He said that they are working meticulously to bring about the changes so that it benefits the people at the grassroots level.

The meeting discussed a few important matters such as the benefit of organic farming for the northeast states in general and Sikkim in particular. They also discussed the importance of food processing units in Sikkim for cash crops like large cardamom, ginger, turmeric, kiwi, orange and many more. The minister showed a deep sense of interest in creating a better agricultural infrastructure for the farmers in Sikkim.

The meeting by Sikkim MP was later joined by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Rameshwar Teli. He assured to provide all possible help to the government of Sikkim to implement the policies.

The meeting also formed a forum to discuss all the pending issues of reservation of seats in the Legislative Assembly of Sikkim for Tamang and Limboo schedule tribes and demand for inclusion of 11 left-out communities in the list of Schedule Tribe.

Income Tax Department carries out searches in J&K

J&K, September 17: The Income Tax Department carried out a search and seizure operation on a prominent Hotelier, owning a chain of Hotels at Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam with another hotel under construction at Leh.

Various incriminating documents and materials evidencing unexplained investments in immovable properties, construction of hotels and residences aggregating to Rs.25.00 crore in the last six financial years have been seized during the search, though he has not paid any tax since A.Y. 2014-15. Almost all these investments are in cash and outside the known sources of income.

During the course of the search operation, receipt of unsecured loans to the tune of Rs.25.00 crore in the past two years from persons of no-means has been found. All these loans are prima-facie not genuine, as the same have been advanced by persons with doubtful creditworthiness.

The search also revealed that the assessee’s children are studying in USA on whom expenditure of approximately Rs.25.00 lakh/annum is being incurred. The expenditure on account of education in USA prima-facie appears to be unexplained/undisclosed. Further, the assessee is also running a B-Ed College as a Trust along with his mother. The Trust is not registered and no return is being filed for the Trust though it has substantial taxable income. The assessee has also admitted to having incurred expenditure of Rs. 40.00 lakh on the renovation of his residential house.

During the investigations a bank locker has also been found, which has been put under restraint.

The Income Tax Department also carried out searches in another case of a prominent jeweller in Srinagar. During the search, it was found that he had not maintained books of accounts of the jewellery business even though the turnover is of the range of Rs. 2 crore to Rs. 10 crore in the earlier years.

The search has revealed that an undeclared bank account was maintained by the assessee with deposits running into crores of rupees, which has not been offered to tax. He also sold immovable property of Rs. 1.90 crore in Srinagar in Financial Year (FY) 2015-16, capital gains tax on which has not been paid.

During the search, documents were found, revealing receipt of a sum of Rs. 16.00 lakh in cash as ‘Pagri’ by the assessee in FY 2019-20 at the time of leasing of one of the shops. This transaction is in violation of provisions of Section 269SS of the Income-tax Act, 1961. This fact of receiving cash of Rs. 16 lakh has been admitted by the assessee as well as the lessee. The payment of Pagri of Rs. 16.00 lakh is also out of undisclosed income of the lessee.

The search also revealed that sale of a flat in Delhi was made by the wife of the assessee in F.Y. 2019-20 of Rs. 33 lakh. During the search, it was seen that no capital gains has been paid on the above sale. Further, out of the sale consideration of Rs.33.00 lakh, Rs.13 lakh has been received in cash in violation of provisions of Section 269SS of the Income-tax Act, 1961. The source of investment of buyer also seems prima-facie undisclosed, which is being investigated.

The search also revealed that the daughter of the assessee was studying abroad and the expenditure on account of the same prima-facie appears unexplained/undisclosed.

Further investigations are in progress.

BSF seizes fake Indian currency notes in Meghalaya

Meghalaya, September 17: Acting on specific tip, on 16th Sept’ 2020 at about 1600 hrs, alert BSF troops deployed on the border of Meghalaya nabbed 01 Bangladeshi National namely Badal @ Ramjan (66 Yrs), S/o Rashid Mia, R/o BD village –Barik Tilla, PS- Tahirpur, Distt-Sunamganj (Bangladesh) along with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth rupees 96000 which was to be smuggled from Bangladesh to India. Few days ago, BSF troops also recovered arms and ammunitions in the same area.

Courageous troops of Border Security Force heavily engaged in stopping of border crime besides guarding the front line of India. The troops of Border Security Force once again displayed a high degree of alertness and extra vigil on International Border by seizing fake Indian currency notes on International borders of Meghalaya.

In another instance, alert BSF troops deployed on West Jaintia Hills apprehended 02 Indian national along with 01 Bolero Pick-up loaded with dry pea worth Rupees more than 08 Lacs. All seized items along with apprehended over to Meghalaya Police for further legal action.

DIG/PRO U K Nayal said “The Border Security Force deployed at Bangladesh Border is performing its duties with full devotion to stop all illegal activities and Trans-Border Crimes. There are reports that FICN & cattle smuggling syndicate is again gearing up and trying to revive the supply of FICN/cattle for smuggling like pre-lockdown scenario”. He further stated that, before the smuggling takes an alarming shape again, all stakeholders should step forward, co-ordinate and launch special operation with BSF to stop the menace of trans-border smuggling.

1.  In a joint Search op launched at 0800 today of the Karewa area of adikal (42RR),  a dug-in Syntax Tank was spotted. On detailed search, a total of 52 Kgs of explosive have been recovered. There were 416 packets of explosives with each packet of 125gm.

Army Chief reviews security in the Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, September 17: General MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is on a two-day visit to Kashmir Valley. The COAS arrived at Srinagar on 17 September 2020 and proceeded to undertake a firsthand assessment of the situation along the Line of Control (LC) in North Kashmir. During his interaction with the soldiers deployed in high altitude areas, he appreciated their high morale and complimented them on their response to Pakistan ceasefire violations.

He also commended the use of technology to ensure effective day and night surveillance across the LC which has resulted in many successful operations to foil infiltration bids from POJK in the recent past. The COAS reinforced the need to extend all possible support to civilians residing in the border areas who are victims of targeted ceasefire violations by Pakistan Army and are facing hardships due to the pandemic.

The COAS then proceeded to interact with commanders and troops deployed in the hinterland.  While interacting with jawans, the COAS highlighted that it was the dawn of a new era of development, peace and prosperity in Kashmir Valley and applauded them for their high level of morale and contribution to peacebuilding in J&K.

He appreciated the high level of coordination amongst all government agencies towards maintaining peace in the valley and efforts to reach out to the “Awam” to overcome the challenges due to COVID-19 pandemic. Later in the day, the COAS reviewed the overall security situation along with the Northern Army Commander and Chinar Corps Commander.

The COAS also called on Shri Manoj Sinha, Lt Governor of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir where he discussed issues concerning the present security situation in the Union Territory and assured the wholehearted support of the Army in ushering in peace and stability in the region. The COAS is scheduled to return to New Delhi on 18 September 2020.

Restrictions imposed on celebrations of Mahalaya and Vishwakarma Puja in Tripura

Tripura, September 17: Keeping in mind the continuous rise of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Tripura government has imposed a number of restrictions for Mahalaya and Vishwakarma puja celebration which falls on the same day on September 17 this year.

Addressing the media, IPS Sashvat Kumar of Tripura Police informed that any form of mass gathering or assemblage shall be strictly prohibited in and around the capital city of Agartala and especially in the parks and roadsides.

He further informed that the order issued by the Chief Secretary of Tripura Government previously also restricts people from gathering in public in the dawn hours on Thursday, when the main rituals of Mahalaya are carried out.

He also said that certain restrictions are also imposed for the Vishwakarma puja celebration which falls on the same day as Mahalaya.

He clarified that mass gathering is strictly prohibited during the puja celebration and following of norms of COVID-19 pandemic including social distancing and wearing of masks shall be compulsory.

Unnecessary traffic movement except movement for essential services shall be checked from morning onwards and the ongoing night curfew from 08:00 PM onwards shall be in force on September 17, he said.

He said that police shall take stringent measures as the law demands in case of any violation of government and health protocols.

Tripura man seeks permission for euthanasia from CM Biplab Deb

Tripura, September 16: A man from central Tripura’s Dhalai district “fed up” of the administration in the state had asked the Chief Minister Biplab Deb to either change the way of running the state or to give him permission to conduct euthanasia on himself.

Amal Gope, a small-time businessman from Fulchari village under Kmalpur subdivision of Dhalai district reached out to media with a letter he wrote to the CM on July 15 seeking permission to kill himself since the state after repeatedly informing about the “sorry state of affairs.”

In the letter that was received by the CM Biplab Deb’s office, he stared his grudges against the food minister Manoj Kanti Deb, who is also a legislator from Kamalpur.

He alleged the minister is in cahoots with a drug racket from Bangladesh which he allowed to stay in the state and help conduct “rampant smuggling and peddling of various psychotropic substances.”

Minister Manoj Kanti Deb, however, when asked about Gope’s allegations, said, “These allegations are baseless. I’ll let the people of Kamalpur judge my mettle. They have known men for long who I really am.”

On Gope, the minister said, “He use to stay in my quarters when he came to Agartala from Kamalpur. I had even helped him with Rs 2500 to buy clothes for his son last Durga Puja. He probably has some personal vendetta against me.”

East Garo Hills district police of Meghalaya busted a hideout of Rengdim kidnapping kingpin Bronson momin.

Meghalaya, September 16: Bronson Momin who was the main kingpin behind kidnapping of Rintu Marak from Rengdim, East Garo Hills last July, 2020 escaped from police raids at Rongjeng. His gang members were all apprehended from Rongjeng and Rongmil areas.

Bronson Momin went hiding in the jungle of Gabil koksi dense forested area with an aim to procure sophisticated arms and expand his group to commit various kind of heinous crimes in the bordering areas of East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills and South Garo hills.

On the September 15 reliable source information was received about his movement in Gabil koksi area and operation was launched on Wednesday.

Dispatch a special team comprising of SF 10 commandos and raided the possible hideout at Nengtek Gabil Koksi forest under Rongmil Operation Group Centre.

Bronson momin was apprehended in the raid and operation team seized one AK 47 (Dummy), One SBBL shotgun, One Air pistol, One kukri (knife), One mini solar panel.

They have been brought to Rongjeng Police Station and officially handed over to West khaki Hills District police for further investigation.
