Parents of recovered first COVID-19 patient of Manipur express gratitude to government, doctors-nurses for their best efforts

Guwahati, April 11: The 23-year-old woman who tested positive for COVID-19 last month in Manipur has now recovered and the parents and family members of the patient have expressed their gratefulness to the government, doctors, nurses, health workers and public for providing support, medical care and best efforts.

In a letter, the parents of the first COVID-19 patient of Manipur and the North-Eastern region said that their daughter gets a new life because of the doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health workers of JNIMS who even risked their own lives and put relentlessly their best efforts day and night.

They said that – “Words can’t describe how grateful we are to the doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health workers of JNIMS who even risked their own lives and put relentlessly their best efforts day and night to give our daughter a new life. It is because of their sheer professionalism, dedication and compassion that today we could smile.

“We thank them all from the core of our heart. May God always be with them in their serving the humanity. Our sincere thanks also go to all who work round the clock behind the scene for their invaluable logistic support to the frontline medical team,” the family members of the 23-year-old woman said in the letter.

They said in the letter that – “We are very thankful to UNACCO School for sheltering us during the quarantine period. We are also indebted to the medical team who took special care for our health and diet during the stay. We also show sincere gratitude to the Thangmeiband Youth Organization (THYO) for its moral support during the struggle. We also would like to show our deep gratitude to the well-wishers all over the world who stood by us in those moments of challenging time and saved us from the tsunami of inflammatory and outrageous remarks on electronic and social media.”

The family members of the first COVID-19 patient of Manipur said that, it is high time that we all fought this deadly disease together as a single-family, the family of humanity not separated by caste, creed, color, language, nationality, power, or religion.

“We will fight till the end and we will overcome it someday, for we are humans not only in flesh and blood but also in the heart. We also pray for the speedy recovery of the patient who is being treated at RIMS, Imphal, and every other patient all over the world, who must be enduring those testing moments in their struggle against this virus. Our prayers and thoughts are also with those unfortunate families who have lost their loved ones to this pandemic,” the parents of the COVID-19 positive patient said.

The 23-year-old woman who had a travel history to the UK tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23 and was admitted to the isolation ward of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal.

The Manipur Health department said that, she first tested negative on April 4 and the confirmatory test report also came in as negative and the first COVID-19 positive patient of the state has now recovered.

Manipur has reported two positive cases for COVID-19 so far.
