Assam, 6th December: General secretary of AICC and in charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh reached Silchar for his election campaign. He was given a warm welcome in Silchar Airport by his supporter. But his convoy attacked at Madhurghat by the Congress supporters led by NSUI President Cachar Javed Laskar.
Javed Ali and Congress supporters raised slogans like “Sushmita Dev Murdabad, Ajit Singh Murdabad” against Silchar MP Sushmita Dev and former minister Ajit Singh. The incident took place while Jitendra Singh was going to Silchar for his election campaign.
All India National Congress once again embarrassed themselves at their event. While the incident was taking place Jitendra Singh tried not to lose his cool and explained to them that this was not good for the party. However, Javed Ali and his people continued to do the same. Seeing this Sushmita Dev’s supporters started counter-slogans which resulted in a tussal between the two teams.
Javed Laskar mentioned to the press saying, “Moinul Haque Choudhury has given so much to Congress, and yet his image was missing from all the posters welcoming Jitendra Singh. That is why to protest we raised Sushmita Dev Murdabad slogans but Papon Dev of Congress started beating me and threatening me”
In this tussal between the two sides, no one was hurt. With the elections in the coming year, Congress plans on coming back. However, with a lack of coordination among its supporters, it seems difficult.
