New Delhi, May 18: Voting for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, covering 49 constituencies across eight States/Union Territories, is slated for Monday.

As per the Election Commission’s data, a total of 695 candidates are vying for these constituencies.

This figure emerged after the scrutiny of 1,586 nomination forms filed for the fifth phase. Out of these submissions, 749 were deemed valid after the deadline on May 3.

Of notable concern is the gender disparity among candidates, with only 82 out of the total 695 contenders being women, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms.
