Itanagar, March 09: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the strategically significant Sela Tunnel project in Arunachal Pradesh today. Built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for Rs 825 crore, the tunnel is situated at an altitude of 13,700 feet in West Kameng district, connecting Tezpur to Tawang.
Constructed using the new Austrian Tunnelling Method, the Sela Tunnel project is an engineering marvel incorporating state-of-the-art safety features.
It will provide all-weather connectivity to Tawang across Sela Pass on the Balipara-Charduar-Tawang Road, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing transport efficiency in the region.
The foundation stone of the Sela Tunnel was laid by the Prime Minister in February 2019.
In addition to the Sela Tunnel, Prime Minister Modi dedicated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 41,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh.
Among these projects, the Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project in the Lower Dibang Valley district holds significance.
With a capacity of 2880MW and a cost of over Rs 31,875 crore, it will be the highest dam structure in the country, contributing to power generation, flood moderation, and socio-economic development.
