Rajgir, June 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University at Rajgir, Bihar today, marking a significant step in rekindling India’s historical ties with its past.
On Wednesday, before the inauguration, PM Modi emphasized that the university would play a crucial role in meeting the educational needs of the youth.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi stated, “It’s a very special day for our education sector. At around 10:30 AM today, the new campus of Nalanda University will be inaugurated at Rajgir. Nalanda has a strong connection with our glorious past.”

Before the inauguration, he will visit the Ruins of Nalanda at around 9:45 AM, a site declared a United Nations Heritage site in 2016.
According to an official statement, PM Modi will inaugurate the new campus at approximately 10:30 AM and address the gathering afterwards. This visit marks Narendra Modi’s first official trip to the state since being sworn in for his third term as Prime Minister.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Nalanda University Chancellor Arvind Panagariya.
Additionally, foreign envoys from 17 countries will be present, including Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Mauritius, Myanmar, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
The new campus boasts two academic blocks, each with 40 classrooms and a total seating capacity of around 1,900. It includes two auditoriums with a seating capacity of 300 each and a student hostel accommodating around 550 people.
The campus also features several additional amenities such as an international center, a large auditorium that can seat up to 2,000 people, a faculty club, and a sports complex.
