Guwahati, July 17: The police in Assam’s Golaghat district seized a female elephant and her calf for allegedly killing a 14-year-old boy. The animals are owned by former MLA Jiten Gogoi.

On July 8, an elephant named Dulumoni allegedly killed the boy in the Bokakhat area of Golaghat. Following public outrage, the police registered a case under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

After seizing the animals, the police handed them to the authorities of the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.

“Today, we have seized the elephant and her calf in connection with the case. We handed over the elephant and her calf to the forest range office,” a police official said.

According to reports, both the animals belong to Jiten Gogoi, a two-time former MLA from Bokakhat.
