TTAADC

Agartala, July 08: Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the leader of the TIPRA Motha party and a prominent figure in Tripura’s political landscape, expressed his dismay over the budget allocation for the development of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Following the conclusion of the budget session, Debbarma took to Twitter to voice his concerns, highlighting the insufficient funds allocated for the TTAADC’s progress.

In his tweet, Debbarma expressed shock at the government’s decision to assign less than 2 percent of the total budget for the development of the TTAADC. He emphasized that nearly 70 percent of the land in Tripura falls under the purview of the ADC, and around 35 percent of the state’s population resides within its jurisdiction. Debbarma deemed this disparity in allocation as a form of neglect and demanded greater attention and resources for the TTAADC’s growth.

The TTAADC, established to safeguard the rights and interests of the tribal communities in Tripura, plays a crucial role in the overall development of the region. It is responsible for addressing various socio-economic and infrastructure needs, ensuring the well-being and progress of the tribal population.

Debbarma’s tweet reflects the concerns of many who believe that the TTAADC deserves a more significant share of the state’s budgetary resources. They argue that the limited allocation inhibits the council’s ability to implement impactful developmental projects and meet the pressing requirements of the tribal communities.

The demand for greater attention to the TTAADC’s development resonates with the larger call for equitable distribution of resources and opportunities among all sections of the population. Many view the current allocation as inadequate, given the substantial population and geographical expanse covered by the TTAADC.

The tweet by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has sparked discussions and debates about the government’s priorities and the need to address the developmental needs of the tribal areas. It highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing the unique challenges faced by the tribal communities in Tripura and ensuring their inclusive growth.

During the budget session in Tripura, five MLAs were suspended from the assembly on Friday for allegedly disrupting the proceedings, leading to opposition parties staging a walkout.

Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen took action by suspending CPI(M) legislator Nayan Sarkar, Congress’ Sudip Roy Barman, and three Tipra Motha MLAs for the day due to their alleged disturbances during the budget session.

The suspended Tipra Motha MLAs are Brishaketu Debbarma, Nandita Reang, and Ranjit Debbarma.

One of the Tipra Motha MLAs, Animesh Debbarma, sought a discussion on the alleged misconduct of BJP legislator Jadab Lal Nath, who was accused of watching pornography on his mobile phone during a previous assembly session in March.

Debbarma attempted to bring up the issue through an adjournment motion, but the Speaker did not permit it and instead requested Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy to present the state budget for the current fiscal year.

This decision by the Speaker irked the Tipra Motha lawmakers, leading them to protest and demand a discussion on the alleged misconduct by Jadab Lal Nath. CPI(M) and Congress MLAs joined the protest and gathered at the well of the House, while the finance minister continued with the budget speech.

In response to the Speaker’s decision, the opposition members eventually staged a walkout from the assembly, expressing their dissatisfaction and protesting against the suspension.

Initially, the Speaker asked the opposition members to cease their protest inside the House, offering to reconsider the suspension. However, as they proceeded with the walkout, Speaker Sen did not revise his order.
