Imphal, April 28: Fresh clashes have erupted in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, escalating tensions and resulting in tragic casualties.

On April 28, violence flared up in Bethel Village under the Koubru range, leading to the death of one Kuki-Zo volunteer.

The conflict intensified in the Leimakhong-Kangchup region around 2:30 am on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and three others sustaining injuries.

The escalating situation prompted the evacuation of women and children from Kharam Vaiphei and L. Phaijang villages to safer locations on Saturday evening.

In response to the unrest, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, declared a 12-hour total shutdown across the entire Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district, commencing from noon on April 28 until midnight.

The shutdown was implemented following the tragic incident in the Kangchup Bethel Area, highlighting the urgent need for peace and stability in the region amidst heightened tensions.
