Agartala, May 14: The Office of the State Election Commission has initiated preparations for the Three-tier Panchayat elections in the state, beginning with compiling the voter list and finalizing polling stations.
State Election Commissioner Saradindu Chaudhuri, IAS (Retd.), highlighted that the elections are scheduled for the last week of July, in accordance with the law.
“We have commenced essential preparations, including compiling the voter list and identifying polling stations. Timely completion of these tasks will enable us to propose the election schedule to the state government,” Chaudhuri stated.
He emphasized the significance of the state government’s stance in the process. The demarcation of gram panchayats and other necessary procedures have been completed as per legal requirements.

Block Development Officers have also conducted review meetings to ensure progress.
Last year, there were 591 Gram Panchayats, with approximately 16 new Gram Panchayats proposed along with 116 seats in the Panchayat Samiti and 8 Zila Parishad. The total seats include 6011 for Gram Panchayats, 419 for Panchayat Samiti, and 116 for Zila Parishad.
As per the notification, the draft voter list will be published on June 6, 2024, followed by the acceptance of claims and objections on June 13.
The final voter list will be released on June 24, 2024, based on the age as of January 1, 2024.
