Delhi, June 30: In a notable move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opted for a ride on the Delhi Metro to attend the valedictory ceremony of Delhi University’s (DU) centenary celebrations. The Prime Minister, accompanied by tight security, swiped his card at a metro station and boarded the train, making the journey alongside fellow commuters.

On Friday, June 30, 2023, Prime Minister Modi embarked on this unique mode of transportation to reach the event at Delhi University. Officials captured moments of his metro ride, showcasing him interacting with passengers and experiencing the public transport system firsthand.

As the chief guest at the closing ceremony of DU‘s centenary celebrations, Prime Minister Modi was scheduled to virtually lay the foundation stone for three new buildings, according to VC Yogesh Singh. The event held great significance, and security measures were heightened with over 1,000 paramilitary and police personnel deployed in the area, as reported by the media.

Delhi University colleges issued guidelines for the live telecast of the closing ceremony, including instructions for attendees to refrain from wearing black dresses, mandatory attendance, and the suspension of classes between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. These measures aimed to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted viewing experience for all participants.

In addition to Prime Minister Modi’s presence, Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan graced the event as the guest of honour. The program included the Prime Minister laying the foundation stone for three buildings and unveiling a collection of coffee table books, as shared by university officials.
