New Delhi, April 17: Former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan expressed concern over the trend of young Indian entrepreneurs seeking opportunities abroad, attributing it to a lack of satisfaction with opportunities within the country.
He likened the ambition of these individuals to the competitive spirit of cricket star Virat Kohli, emphasizing their desire to excel globally.
Rajan highlighted the importance of enhancing human capital and skill development to retain talent within India.
Despite acknowledging the potential of India’s young population as a demographic dividend, he stressed that the country is not fully capitalizing on this advantage.

Speaking at a conference in Washington on India’s economic prospects, Rajan cautioned against complacency, citing the need for sustained job creation and economic growth to harness the demographic dividend effectively.
He pointed out that India’s current growth rate of around 6 percent falls short compared to other countries during their demographic dividend periods.
Rajan’s remarks underscored the urgency for India to address structural challenges and create an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and job creation.
He called for policies that enable young Indians to realize their aspirations within the country, rather than seeking opportunities overseas.
