Raj Bhavan in Mizoram shall provide shelter to the needy.
Aizawl, Aug 12: Raj Bhavan in Aizwal, Mizoram is open for all who need shelter and assistance during the outbreak of the pandemic, said the Governor of Mizoram, P.S Sreedharan Pillai.
“Anyone can reach out to me over the phone. People can take shelter at the Raj Bhavan. We are ready to provide assistance to those distressed due to the pandemic,” the 66-year-old governor told PTI.
He said that the Raj Bhavan would be serving its main purpose which is to help the people. It was built for the common masses too, not just politicians of bureaucrats.
He also mentions that they have helped people in a number of occasions earlier. The several students and teachers who were stranded in Mizoram due to the lockdown were provided shelter. Arrangements were also made for their safe return, even outside the state, said the 66-year-old renowned lawyer.
According to an official at the Raj Bhavan, 5 students and teachers from Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Kerala had run out of money and could not pay hotel bills, so they stayed at the Raj Bhavan for a week. The Raj Bhavan also provided food and assistance to students of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Aizawl for a week in May.
Pillai praised the Mizoram government, it’s civil society organisations and churches for standing up against the pandemic together. He said that the regimented Mizo society has set up a good example for others on how to deal with a situation like this.
Recently the governor had released 3 of the 13 books he wrote during the pandemic. He said that the other 10 books would be released in different parts of the country very soon.
