Guwahati, Feb 22: Amidst preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Assam, MLA Rakibul Hussain has made a significant decision regarding his candidacy.

He announced his withdrawal from contesting the Dhubri constituency and expressed his aspiration to stand for election in the Nagaon constituency instead.

Hussain clarified that he voluntarily opted out of the race for the Dhubri seat, emphasizing his support for local candidates in the region. He affirmed his willingness to accept the party’s decision if nominated to contest from Nagaon.

Dismissing misconceptions surrounding his candidacy, Hussain clarified that he never applied for candidacy in Dhubri, contrary to widespread reports. Instead, he highlighted his application for the Nagaon constituency, citing his longstanding association with the area.

Addressing rumors linking his sons to the electoral process, Hussain categorically denied such allegations, asserting that his family’s involvement had been inaccurately portrayed in the media.

While reiterating his allegiance to the party’s directives, Hussain advocated for the promotion of local leaders in Dhubri.

He identified potential candidates, including Wazed Ali Choudhury and Abdul Khaliq, signaling his support for their candidature.

Hussain affirmed his commitment to adhere to the directives of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) regarding electoral participation, underscoring his dedication to the party’s principles and decisions.
