Aizawl, Oct 12: The Customs Department of Mizoram carried out a daring rescue operation resulting in the successful rescue of a critically endangered baby orangutan. The operation took place in Seling village, located in the Aizawl district of Mizoram, and has raised concerns about the potential smuggling of this endangered species from Myanmar.

The rescue mission was executed after customs department officials received information suggesting that the baby orangutan had been illegally transported into the region from Myanmar. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the customs department intercepted a vehicle that was reportedly coming from Myanmar, securing the primate’s safety. The driver of the vehicle was apprehended and taken into custody.

Following the rescue, the critically endangered baby orangutan is now under the care and supervision of the forest department, which will ensure its well-being and protection. While this particular operation had a successful outcome, it underscores the broader challenges that these endangered species face across international borders.

Collaboration between law enforcement agencies, wildlife conservation organizations, and concerned citizens is crucial in the fight against wildlife trafficking and the preservation of vulnerable species.
