Guwahati, April 29: Ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Guwahati on April 29, the Guwahati Traffic Police has implemented various restrictions on vehicular movement to ensure public safety.

These restrictions aim to facilitate the smooth passage of emergency vehicles while also safeguarding vulnerable road users such as children, students, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals.

Here are the details of the restrictions:

  1. Commercial goods carrying vehicles will not be allowed on specified routes including NH-17, DG Road, MG Road, RKC Road, AK Dev Road, FA Road, AK Azad Road, and B.K Kakati Road from 12 PM to 9 PM on April 29, 2024.
  2. Slow-moving vehicles/carts will be restricted on certain roads during the same period.
  3. All ASTC and private city buses will be regulated from LGBI Airport towards Machkhowa via designated routes from 1 PM onwards.
  4. Vehicular traffic will not be permitted from Birubari Tiniali near Aarya Nagar Flyover to Lalganesh Tiniali at AK Azad Road starting from 2 PM.
  5. However, these restrictions will not apply to emergency vehicles such as fire tenders, ambulances, vehicles carrying life-saving drugs, oxygen cylinders, and school buses.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to lead a grand roadshow in Guwahati, a crucial event in the lead-up to the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Given the significance of the event in mobilizing voters, large crowds are expected to attend.

To ensure security during Shah’s visit, certain roads in Kamrup Metropolitan District have been designated as ‘no drone, no firecrackers, and no-fly zones.’

These measures will be in place along the route from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport to Jalukbari-Maligaon-Cycle Factory Tiniali-Lal Ganesh.
