Russia ceasefire Ukraine

Russia-Ukraine War News, Mar 07: In a major development, Russia declares a ceasefire in Ukraine from 10 a.m. Moscow time (12.30 pm IST) to allow for evacuations. The Russian Military declares a ceasefire in Ukraine from 12.30 pm IST to open humanitarian corridors at French President Emmanuel Macron’s request.

Earlier, Macron talked to both Russian President and Ukrainian presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy on phone. The French President had said, “We are striving to preserve the integrity of Ukraine’s civilian nuclear plants, in addition to other priority demands we presented to Russia: a ceasefire and the protection of civilians.”

But, Russian state media outlet Russia Today quotes the ministry: “Kyiv’s attempts to accuse Russia of disrupting the humanitarian operation this time are meaningless, control will be carried out with the help of drones.”

According to highly placed sources in the government, the evacuation of Indian students currently stuck in Sumy is likely to be top of the agenda in PM Narendra Modi’s call with Zelensky and Putin.

Sumy, lying about 350 km east of Kyiv and 180 km northwest of Kharkiv, is now at the centre of India’s evacuation efforts from the war zone. About 700 Indians, mostly students of medical colleges at Sumy State University, are stranded in this city in Ukraine’s northeast.

The war, now on its 12th day, has caused 1.5 million people to flee Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Russian military has warned Ukraine’s neighboring countries from hosting its warplanes, saying Moscow may consider them a part of the conflict if Ukrainian aircraft fly combat missions from their territory.

European Union leader Charles Michel has expressed reservations over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s appeals to impose a no-fly zone over Ukrainian airspace, saying that doing so could spark a world war.
