Security Manipur

Imphal, Sept 21: Security operations in Manipur have been significantly stepped up, leading to the confiscation of explosives and the detention of numerous individuals in response to escalating tensions in the state.

Authorities, in collaboration with security forces, have launched extensive search operations in vulnerable regions of Manipur, particularly in Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur districts. These operations have yielded substantial results, with the discovery of a firearm, two locally-crafted Pumpi guns, 50 rounds of ammunition, and eight explosives retrieved from Imphal-West and Kangpokpi districts.

To enhance security measures, a total of 127 checkpoints, known as Nakas, have been established throughout various districts in Manipur, including both hilly and valley areas. These Nakas have played a critical role in monitoring and regulating movement within the state, leading to the detention of 873 individuals for various violations across different districts.

In addition to rigorous security checks, authorities have given top priority to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential goods. To facilitate this, 182 vehicles have been granted permission to travel along NH-37, while 19 vehicles have been allowed on NH-2, all of them transporting essential commodities. Stringent security protocols are in place in vulnerable areas, and security convoys are accompanying vehicles through sensitive stretches to ensure their safe and unimpeded transit.
