Guwahati, Dec 17: In a significant blow to the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), led by Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), 46 leaders officially switched their allegiance to the Bodo People’s Front (BPF) in a ceremony conducted in the Salbari subdivision of Baksa district.

The pivotal event transpired at the Govardhana Bodoland Darbar auditorium, orchestrated by the BPF’s Salbari district committee. During the gathering, 46 individuals, including leaders affiliated with UPPL, formally announced their affiliation with the BPF.

The meeting presided over by Khanindra Brahma, the In-charge President of BPF’s Salbari District Committee, witnessed the participation of key figures such as UPPL Central Member Kanak Chandra Boro, Salbari District Committee Organizing Secretary Vinod Swargiyari, Jiten Kalita, Treasurer Theron Selaray, Member Bebika Basumatary, and Shalbari Block Committee Organizing Secretary Mukunda Das.

Notable leaders from BPF, including Central General Secretary and former MLA Maneshwar Brahma, former MLA Thaneshwar Basumatary, Youth BPF President and Member of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) of Salbari constituency Jay Musahari, were also present during the event.

This mass defection marks a significant political development in the region, signalling a shift in loyalties and alliances within the political landscape of Assam.
