Gangtok, Feb 27: The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has called upon the Election Commission to impose President’s rule in the state, alleging attacks on its members by the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, in a memorandum to the chief election commissioner, accused SKM members, supported by the state government, of assaulting SDF workers in a “heinous” manner.
He asserted that these attacks were obstructing the SDF’s outreach to voters and demanded a level playing field for all parties.

Chamling emphasized the need for the President’s rule to ensure fair elections and urged the Election Commission to direct the state administration to uphold the rule of law.
Additionally, the SDF urged the deployment of central forces to guarantee unbiased election processes.
The party also requested the early assignment of senior observers to verify the claims outlined in the memorandum, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention to address electoral irregularities.
