Gangtok, Oct 08: The dead body of a missing Indian Army jawan hailing from Assam’s Baksa district has been recovered on October 8 in Sikkim. This heart-wrenching development follows the devastating flash flood that struck the Teesta River basin in Sikkim. The jawan, identified as Mitul Kalita, served as a craftsman in the technical department of the Indian Army.
The Sikkim flash flood incident, which unfolded on Wednesday, October 5, resulted in Mitul Kalita being one of the 22 soldiers reported missing. Mitul, who was stationed in Alipurduar, West Bengal, had been dispatched to Sikkim on official duty at the time.
Mitul Kalita’s family, residents of the Anandabazar area in Baksa district, had been living through an agonizing period of uncertainty as they desperately tried to establish contact with him. Tragically, their hope was dashed as they received the heartbreaking news of Mitul’s recovery, albeit lifeless.
