Gangtok, June 15: Sikkim’s Rajya Sabha MP DT Lepcha has proposed establishing a Sikkim Tourism Information Centre (TIC) in Kakarvitta, West Bengal.

In a letter to Chief Minister Tamang, Lepcha emphasized the growing tourist numbers and proposed that the TIC cater to these needs. Kakarvitta, a vital border town between India and Nepal, serves as a major entry point for foreign tourists visiting Sikkim and Darjeeling via the Nepal corridor.

The proposed TIC aims to provide accurate information about Sikkim, issue Inner Line Permits to foreign tourists, promote high-quality tourism, and facilitate Nepali visitors.

Lepcha believes this initiative will significantly benefit Sikkim’s tourism sector and contribute to the state’s overall development.

Additionally, Lepcha underscored the importance of reopening the Sikkim Tourism Information Centre at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station in Siliguri, West Bengal.

This center, previously operational but now closed, played a crucial role in tourism promotion.

Reopening this TIC would provide essential travel and tourism information, facilitating the issuance of Inner Line Permits to foreign tourists.

Positioned strategically, it is expected to enhance tourism promotion in Sikkim and assist tourists in planning their visits effectively.
