Gangtok, April 29: D Anandan, the Chief Electoral Officer of Sikkim, conducted a thorough inspection of the strong rooms at Namchi Government College, Kamrang for Namchi district, on April 29.

Accompanied by key officials including Mrs Annapurna Alley, DEO/DC, Namchi, Dr Tsering Namgyal Gyatso, Sr. SP Namchi, and Mrs Bhumika Chettri, Deputy Secretary (Election), Anandan reviewed the security arrangements for the stored Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), monitored the control room operations, and assessed various election-related protocols.

During the visit, Anandan emphasized the importance of strict adherence to security protocols for the strong rooms and urged the DEO to enhance security measures at critical locations to prevent any potential lapses or incidents.

To bolster surveillance efforts, he instructed the establishment of a dedicated control room in the vicinity and mandated the regular backup of CCTV footage.

Furthermore, Anandan sought detailed information regarding daily monitoring procedures, logbook maintenance, availability of electricity, fire safety measures, and other essential supplies.

The DC and Sr. SP provided comprehensive explanations regarding the security protocols implemented to safeguard the perimeter.

Anandan also inspected the camp housing political representatives tasked with monitoring activities to prevent malpractices involving the stored EVMs.

He enquired about the provision of live footage from the strong rooms to their camp and other facilities provided to them.
