New Delhi, Feb 19: The Supreme Court intervened on Monday, putting a halt to the breach of privilege proceedings initiated against top West Bengal officials, including Chief Secretary Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika and Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar.

These actions stemmed from a complaint filed by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sukanta Majumdar, who alleged misconduct and life-threatening injuries during a protest related to the Sandeshkhali violence.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud led the bench that issued the stay order, responding to a petition filed by the West Bengal chief secretary seeking urgent intervention.

The Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha had summoned the officials to appear on Monday.

The court granted notice on the petition and scheduled further proceedings for four weeks from now.
