Tipra Motha BJP

Agartala, Feb 07: Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma, in a public meeting, junked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union home minister Amit Shah’s charges that his party had “underhand setting with the Left and the Congress” and said that BJP was B-Team in several states.

Amit Shah had claimed in a rally in Tripura on Monday that there was an “underhand setting between Tipra Motha and the Left and the Congress,” which Manikya Debbarma denied.

Launching a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manikya Debbarma said, “Where is the understanding? BJP is Rio’s B-team in Nagaland. BJP is the B-team in Mizoram. In Meghalaya, BJP won’t win. They have this understanding that they will fight in 60 and then join the government. Same is for Mizoram.”

Manikya Debbarma’s newly formed political party Tipra Motha is fighting the electoral battle in Tripura this year. The party has released its election manifesto and promised to fight for ‘Greater Tipraland’, a separate state for Tripura’s indigenous people.

Other promises of the Tipra Motha include a police force for the tribal council, 20,000 new jobs, and a one-time package for militants who surrender.

The party performed exceedingly well in the 2021 Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTADC) election that it contested in alliance with the INPT. It contested 23 seats and won 16, securing 47 percent of the votes, while its ally the INPT got 9.3 percent votes and two seats.

The BJP contested 12 seats and won 9 but its ally, the IPFT, was wiped out and failed to win even one of the 16 seats it contested. The Left, too, was wiped out.
