TIPRA Pradyot

Agartala, May 10: TIPRA Motha, the main opposition party in Tripura, is all set for a major restructuring, according to the party’s chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. The move comes after the party’s poor performance in the state’s Assembly elections in February.

Debbarma revealed that he has received an extensive report from a high-level committee tasked with assessing the party’s strengths and weaknesses in the polls. The report will be discussed at a plenary session scheduled for next month, where the party will restructure itself from the primary level up to the Central Committee.

The committee comprises TIPRA Motha President Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, and senior leaders Jagadish Debbarma, Rajeshwar Debbarma, Buddhu Debbarma, and Mevar Kumar Jamatia.

In the Assembly, the TIPRA Motha party contested in 42 seats and won 13. The high-level committee was constituted in March this year and was given two months to submit their report. The party’s chief, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, expressed his belief that change is good and that the restructuring will demonstrate the party’s commitment to the people.

Recently, Debbarma held discussions with Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on various issues related to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

He expressed concern that despite the TTAADC starting several schemes in various sectors, the state government that allocates funds to it is yet to release the money.

The TIPRA Motha party had promised Greater Tipraland as their poll agenda and swept the 28-member TTAADC within two months after its formation in 2019, replacing the Left Front. The TTAADC passed various bills, including those on land revenue, customary law, and area expansion in the ADC, but they have been pending with the governor for nearly two years.
