Kolkata, Jan 06: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a lookout notice for Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh following a violent attack on an ED team en route to raid Sheikh’s residence in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
The raid was part of the ongoing investigation into the public distribution system (PDS) scam.
The ED officials encountered a hostile mob of nearly a thousand people, purportedly supporters of Sheikh, on January 5. The mob aggressively confronted the team, aiming to cause harm as they approached Sandeshkhali.

The attack involved physical assault on ED officials and the seizure of their mobile phones, laptops, and cash. This incident raises concerns about the safety of law enforcement officials and the intensifying tensions surrounding the investigation into the ration distribution scam.
In response to the attack, the Enforcement Directorate promptly issued a lookout notice for Shahjahan Sheikh. This notice circulated to all airport authorities and the Border Security Force (BSF), aims to prevent his escape from the country.
Investigative sources suggest that Sheikh has been evading authorities since the assault on ED officials near his residence.
Based on the formal complaint lodged by the ED, an FIR has been registered against Shahjahan Sheikh. This incident underscores the challenges faced by investigative agencies in their pursuit of justice and the growing volatility surrounding the PDS scam investigation.
