Noida, Feb 26: Farmers in districts like Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Baghpat, Hapur, and Amroha staged a tractor march, causing traffic disruptions by occupying the left lanes of highways with their vehicles.

Activists from the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) protested by blocking NH 58 at Mohiuddinpur in Meerut. The BKU urged farmers to park tractors on highways in solidarity with protests in Punjab and Haryana.

Rakesh Tikait’s Call to Action

Rakesh Tikait, a prominent leader, emphasized the significance of the tractor march in drawing government attention to farmers’ concerns. He announced a

Tractor Chain‘ protest, urging farmers to line highways leading to Delhi with parked tractors. Tikait stressed the need for the government to address farmers’ demands and announced the formation of a committee to engage with farmer organizations.

Tikait announced the formation of a committee to engage with farmer organizations independent of the Sanyukt Morcha. This committee invites groups to join discussions for collective action and advocacy for agricultural reforms.

Traffic Disruption at Delhi-Noida Border

As farmers plan a protest march to Delhi via various routes including the Yamuna Expressway, Luharli toll plaza, and Mahamaya flyover, authorities anticipate traffic congestion at the Delhi-Noida border.

Authorities have heightened security measures, conducting extensive checks and erecting barricades at border points. Heavy traffic was reported at the Chilla border from Delhi to Noida due to the security checks.

Gautam Buddh Nagar Police confirmed intensified checking by both Delhi Police and district police at border points, with traffic diversions as necessary to manage the flow of vehicles.

The ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest, led by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, aims to pressure the Centre into addressing farmers’ demands, including legal assurances for minimum support prices (MSP) and farm loan waivers.

Farmers have maintained their presence at Shambhu and Khanauri points along Punjab’s border with Haryana since February 13, following initial attempts by security forces to halt their march.
