Agartala, July 28: In a deeply distressing incident, a man from south Tripura was found dead in the territory of Bangladesh. The deceased, identified as Ashish Baidya, a 38-year-old bicycle mechanic, had been reported missing by his family before this shocking discovery. Bangladesh security officials recovered his body, but they have so far refused to hand it over, citing procedural formalities.

Ashish Baidya, a resident of the Nalua locality in Belonia, Tripura, was known for his bicycle repairing workshop at the Nalua market. He was dedicated to his work and was a loving father to his only son. However, when Baidya went missing, his family grew increasingly concerned and reported his disappearance to the authorities.

The news of the tragic incident reached the Belonia police station in south Tripura district, prompting swift action. Police personnel from the Hrishyamukh outpost, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Belonia station, rushed to the border point upon receiving information that the deceased’s body had been found at Jashpur within Bangladesh’s territory. The Indian authorities identified Baidya through the Aadhaar card provided by his family.

The Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) took possession of the body and subsequently handed it over to the Bangladesh police. The body was then transferred to the nearest mortuary in Bangladesh. However, the Indian police are currently awaiting a flag meeting between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the BGB to facilitate the return of Ashish Baidya’s body to his grieving family in Tripura.

This unfortunate incident has added to the complexity of cross-border situations between India and Bangladesh. The delay in the return of the deceased’s body has left the family and the local community in deep anguish.
