Agartala, March 23: The Tripura government took action on March 22, suspending an Anganwadi worker after two toddlers sustained critical burn injuries due to an accident involving hot water at the Bairagimura Anganwadi Centre in the Sepahijala district.
An order issued by the Office of the Child Development Project Officer confirmed the suspension of Jayalaxmi Sarkar (Debbarma), the Anganwadi Worker responsible for the incident.
Two 5-year-old girls, Punti Debbarma and Hamari Debbarma, suffered severe burns on March 20 when hot water was accidentally spilled on them by Jayalaxmi Sarkar.
Both girls are currently undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Agartala Govt.

The order mandated Jayalaxmi Sarkar’s immediate suspension from her duties as an Anganwadi worker.
Anita Burman, the Sector Supervisor, along with other supervisors, has been directed to visit the Anganwadi Center and engage with parents and the Anganwadi Center Management Committee.
A thorough investigation into the incident has been initiated, with a report expected within two days.
The Department of Social Welfare and Social Education swiftly extended financial support of Rs. 30,000 to the affected families.
Minister Tinky Roy and department authorities visited the injured children at the hospital, ensuring coordination with medical staff for their care.
Minister Roy has pledged additional financial assistance for the children, reflecting the government’s commitment to their well-being.
An inquiry is underway, with the department taking prompt action by suspending the Anganwadi Worker’s service.
Strict monitoring by the management committee will be enforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
